Experimental Vietnamese Music

So who says that Vietnamese music is all about sad songs and Trinh Cong Son and cai luong and Linda Trang Dai? Not C-drik. C-drík runs a web site dedicated to African and Asian alternative music, including a section on Vietnamese experimental music. Check it out, send him some suggestions and links. This is neither red music nor yellow music (red music being revolutionary music, and yellow music being the kind of thing the revolution outlawed after 1975 for being romantic and sappy, as in sapping revolutionary fervor. For more on yellow music, see Philip Taylor’s excellent chapter on it in Fragments of the Present: Searching for Modernity in Vietnam’s South). You have to scroll way down in C-drik’s site to get to the section on Viet Nam, but pasted below are the links on the site devoted to Viet Nam, and a couple of video clips. Strange, noisy, awesome.
