diaCRITICS: We’re updating our website!

We are happy to announce that the diaCRITICS website will be undergoing a long-overdue update in August, so we are slowing down posts this month while we tend to some details behind the scenes.

A little later this month, we will launch a special revival of our “Out of the Margins” literary series, with both old and new writings by established as well as emerging Vietnamese diasporic writers. Please stay tuned for more on this soon.

We are also looking forward to rolling out some other new curations and features this coming fall, and presenting work by new contributors, once we have our website update in place.

We’ll also be launching a couple new subscribe-and-donate options this fall. As a project of DVAN (Diasporic Vietnamese Artists Network), diaCRITICS is run mainly via the dedication and generosity of our volunteer editorial staff and contributing writers. Moving forward, our goal in the coming year is to be able to pay our contributors, as we also continue to expand our mission of creating visibility and forging connections across our ever-evolving diaspora.

We hope you have found the content on this blog enriching (or perhaps at times provoking) over the years, and that you’ll continue to follow and read and support us as we move forward. Please stay tuned for more from us very soon!

  1. Wonderful news! Also about paying your contributors. They deserve no less.
I have been a subscriber for three years. My question is: Will the new DVAN site be limited to people with Vietnamese roots who reside in the U.S.?
I have no Vietnamese roots and live in Canada. Taught in Hanoi from 2005 to 20111, and visited again for two months in 2017 on a Canadian Government literary grant. Published a collection of short stories entitled “The Swallows Uncaged; A Narrative in Eight Panels,” tracing the history of Vietnam from the 11th century to the present. Currently completing the third draft of a novel inspired by the life of Hai Ba Trung. Can I continue to subscribe to your site?
    Greetings from Vancouver, British Columbia.
    Sincerely,
    Elizabeth McLean

We will always continue to welcome subscribers and readers from all and any backgrounds, Elizabeth. Subscription i.e. following the blog is open to anyone and is free. 🙂 But we do plan to add on a donate option to those subscribers or readers who wish to help financially support diaCRITICS’ mission, as that will help us be able to pay our contributors. Our content will of course continue to center on artists and cultural productions from those with Vietnamese and Southeast Asian roots. Thank you for reading!
