Poetry: Form 1040

Oct 2, 2024

Blake asks if I want to file my taxes this year. Oh yes, please contribute my great dollar to the erasure of people. I should fast for thirty days. God might forgive me for living in dread and an almost full fridge. Pasture raised eggs. Raw milk. Bulgarian yogurt. French butter. I’d have somewhere to eat when Ramadan ends.

My father is a good citizen. Go to jury duty. Pay your car insurance. Don’t get audited. My mother is a good worker. l wonder if being of service for survival still creates purpose. How many nails do we have to file until we’re enough.
